President’s Letter

Dear Akron Area SHRM Chapter Members,

It was a great 2017 for Akron Area SHRM, and as I continue to serve as your President, I hope you’ll join us for any number of our latest initiatives for 2018: social and community activities, executive leadership sessions, or networking nights.

Our website shouts our mission: “Akron Area SHRM: Enhancing our organizations, our professions, ourselves.” Akron SHRM continues to source speakers that further our development as professionals. National SHRM supports this effort through competency-based programs. Hopefully all of us are holding or striving toward completing that very special SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP Certification.

We are constantly looking for your feedback on new training ideas and speaker presentations. We encourage you to give yourself regular breaks from your day-to-day practitioner life and join us at our monthly meetings, which will expose you to new ways to enhance your knowledge, your career and your organizations.  As pre-approved providers with both SHRM and HRCI, we are pleased we can help you obtain recertification credits for those of you holding those credentials.

We are working this year to give members an opportunity to try out leadership within our Board through what we call “micro-engagement opportunities”.  With our bi-annual elections coming up in the fall, we will be looking again across our membership to fill some very important Board positions, and these micro-engagement events will allow you to experience the planning side of Akron Area SHRM on a one-and-done basis. Volunteer to help with mock interviews or assist with a committee event. And consider it a compliment if one of your Board members taps you on the shoulder for help!

AASHRM is great because of you!

Thank you for allowing me to lead this organization.

    President, Akron Area SHRM
    Kate Dashner, MBA, SHRM-SCP, SPHR
