Courageous Conversations: How HR Professionals can help Leaders and Individuals Talk about Issues of Diversity in the Workplace
A ‘courageous conversation’ is one that is often difficult to have but necessary, and when done effectively, can have a dramatic impact on how we lead ourselves, the team or the business. It requires us to step out of our comfort zone to discuss a topic that might well cause an emotional response. While often avoided, these conversations can be instrumental in building an inclusive workplace. -Wells Fargo
HR Leaders are often called upon to facilitate meaningful, civil, and sometimes difficult conversations. This highly interactive workshop will explore some of the key behaviors and skills required by HR and organizational leaders to engage in courageous conversations – specifically in relation to topics of diversity, equity, and inclusion – at work with direct reports, colleagues, or line managers. It will also include an opportunity to practice having a courageous conversation and provide tools for doing this in other spaces.
Learning Objectives:
• Define Courageous Conversations and discuss why it’s important to build on diverse and inclusive workspace
• Define HR’s role in terms of facilitating and educating others about these discussions
• Describe and demonstrate the skills, behaviors and differing approaches that may be required when engaging in courageous conversations
