Pushing the Envelope:  Candid Conversations on Race & Equity

Racism has a cost for everyone featuring Heather C. McGhee

Join Akron Area SHRM and Stark County Human Resource Association as we explore our 2nd installment of the Roundtable Series addressing the impact of systemic racism and inequality in our society through video and movie reviews.

Racism makes our economy worse -- and not just in ways that harm people of color, says public policy expert Heather C. McGhee. From her research and travels across the US, McGhee shares startling insights into how racism fuels bad policymaking and drains our economic potential -- and offers a crucial rethink on what we can do to create a more prosperous nation for all. "Our fates are linked," she says. "It costs us so much to remain divided."

In this TedTalk, available free and on demand through YouTube (~14 mins), Ms. McGhee dives deep into analysis of the business imperative to halt racism in its tracks. Participants should plan to watch this TedTalk in advance and come prepared to learn about and create some tangible solutions to incorporate within their own circles of influence.

As we in HR commit to our focus on racial justice, equality, and diversity in our communities, we ask participants to watch the video in advance and come to the meeting ready to discuss their impressions of this TedTalk.  Each should be prepared to learn about and create some tangible solutions to incorporate within their own circles of influence.

This is the second of five films that we will review throughout 2021.  Join us in this most important Roundtable Discussion series! Spaces are limited…register today!
