Join us for our December Appreciation Luncheon!

Every December, Akron Area SHRM likes to slow things down and take a moment to recognize our wonderful members and their efforts to enhance our profession throughout the year.

Please join us for an afternoon of appetizers, basket raffles, lunch, and our special guest speakers Judge Joy Malek Oldfield and Judge Christine Croce , Presiding Judge's of the Summit County Court of Common Pleas Felony Drug Court, the Turning Point Program.

Second Chances in a Season of Hope:                                              Summit County Courts Turning Point Program

Opioid addiction in Ohio, and specifically in Northeast Ohio, has hit its residents hard, whether they are dealing with addiction themselves, are watching family members struggle, or are grappling with its effects in the workplace.  In the workplace, employers are desperate for ways to stem the tide of addiction amongst its employees, provide assistance to family members dealing with it in their own lives, and maintain a drug-free and safe workplace.

The Summit County Court of Common Pleas operates a felony drug court, called the Turning Point Program, whose specific goal is to provide opportunities for treatment and rehabilitation for non-violent drug offenders.  The mission of the Summit County Turning Point Program is to improve the overall quality of life in our community by providing a court-supervised program for substance dependent offenders to enhance public safety, reduce crime, hold offenders accountable, reduce cost to the community and provide an opportunity for offenders to transform in to positive, contributing community members.

Judge Oldfield and Judge Croce will speak to their first-hand experience with the program and its participants.  Their stories of the seizing of second chances and hope for the future should give all attendees a sense that there are bright spots in this harrowing epidemic.  Their message will resonate with HR professionals, on the front lines of the situation and provide them with the inspiration as well as specific strategies to take back to their workplaces and address the crisis there.
